North of Silence
2024 — 09:47
Nine minutes on the stretch of coast where the phone signal ends — made with Nordlys App to show what their offline maps are actually for.
Two trips, four days each, weather that ignored the forecast both times. We walked the coastal path with a sound recordist and one camera, filming whoever the fog brought us: a lighthouse volunteer, two winter swimmers, a shepherd moving sheep off the headland.
Nothing is staged and almost nothing is narrated. The film is carried by location sound and three short interviews recorded in kitchens. It remains the most-watched piece of work on this site, and the one I am asked about most.
